Courage Behind the Craft: The True Story of Edward Christopher
What if every second on your wrist could tell a story of courage?
It’s a tribute to two real-life heroes whose bravery and selflessness inspired not just a brand, but a purposeful creative, commercial and charitable movement.
The Real Heroes: Edward & Christopher
Our name isn’t a clever marketing invention to affect a sophisticated sound and feel to our award-winning watch brand that designs and produces custom mechanical watches. It’s anything but because…
Edward and Christopher were two courageous British men who each saved a child’s life…which, for one of them, cost him his life. Their stories aren’t just anecdotes. They’re the heartbeat of everything we do.
Edward's Story
Edward was a British “Tommy” – a British soldier who fought in the trenches on the Western Front in the First World War of 1914-18; or, as his generation referred to it, the Great War.
Edward somehow survived the war and returned to his London home. But, not long after returning, he dived into an icy river to save a drowning boy...and saved his life.
But, because his health had been affected by the physical privations of war, his selfless act led him to getting influenza. And he died shortly afterwards. Edward was only 24.
Christopher's Story
Christopher, a chartered accountant and an entrepreneur, from Worcestershire in the UK, saved a young girl’s life after she stopped breathing at a summer event, too far from medical help.
While most people present were too shocked and/or screaming to do anything, his calmness, resolve and actions saved that girl’s life.
Both their legacies are woven into the DNA of our colourful watches: courage, determination and selflessness – old-style British values that the world needs now more than ever.
From Undercover Work to Watchmaking: My Journey
I’m Seán Brickell – the Founder of Edward Christopher, as well as an entrepreneur and a former journalist & broadcaster.
My path to creating Edward Christopher wasn’t linear. It was fuelled by a passion for storytelling, a love for mechanical and aesthetic beauty, and a belief that business should also be a force for good. Hence a desire to create an ethical watch brand.
Based on my heartbreaking experiences of nursing my father through the pancreatic cancer that killed him so quickly, and the profound reflections after this death, I realised that...
When your time on this earth is up you need to ask yourself these three key questions about the life you have experienced and the life you have chosen to lead…
- Have I lived fearlessly, fruitfully and feelingly?
- Have I loved and been loved warmly, wisely and wholeheartedly?
- Have I left a life-enhancing legacy of which I, and those who truly count with me, be rightly proud?
If you can honestly answer yes to one of those, you’ve had a good life. If you can say yes to two of those, then you’ve had a very good life. And if you can truly answer yes to all three questions, then you have made the very most of your life in all the best ways. And this is a driving force at Edward Christopher.
So, after years of telling and engaging with other people’s stories as a frontline news correspondent & news presenter, as well as being an undercover investigative journalist, I wanted to create something tangible that could tell its own.
Watches became my canvas. The mission? To design mesmerising watches in magical colours for a meaningful purpose.
A Brand with a Purpose
Now, I'm proud to say that 9 months after launching Edward Christopher, we became an award-winning (British) watchmaker.
And our twofold mission is to build the most mesmerising coloured, custom made mechanical watches...for a meaningful purpose.
That purpose is to help 1+ million children & young people in need around the world by donating 10% of our profits to charities helping them. This is motivated and explained by our History.
Award-Winning Designs
Humble Brag Alert! There's a reason we won a top international design award for our watches - just 9 months after we launched. This is because we don't produce "homage" watches (copying others, in other words) or tweak and re-label white label timepieces as our own. We design unique, custom made mechanical watches from scratch...with heart, care and design derring-do.
5 Year Warranty
Your watch is covered by an industry leading 5 year international warranty. We care very much about providing you not only with excellent watches, but also with equally excellent customer service and security when you purchase an Edward Christopher watch.
10% Charity Donations
We're donating an industry leading 10% of our profits to charities. In our case, ones that help children & young people in need around the world. For us, it's about blending charity and commerce...and is a key part of our brand story and our Mission.
A Watch as a Daily Reminder (Not Just a Nice Thing)
Wearing an Edward Christopher watch isn’t just about keeping time. It’s about carrying forward a legacy of courage and creativity and a cause.
Because when you invest in an Edward Christopher watch, you invest in the lives of children & young people.

Why All This Matters
There’s a reason I keep coming back to the idea of “seconds” in this story.
A mechanical watch is a tiny, living engine on your wrist — hundreds of components working together, quietly, faithfully, without shortcuts. And in a strange way, that feels like the perfect metaphor for the kind of courage Edward and Christopher showed: not loud, not performative, not done for applause… just the right action at the right moment.
That’s also why I’m so stubborn about how we design and build our watches. Not to chase trends. Not to copy icons. But to create something original that carries meaning — and earns its place in your life.
Because the best watches don’t just match outfits; they mark chapters. They become the thing you glance at before a big meeting, on a first date, at a wedding, or in a hard season when you need a little grit.
If this brand stands for anything, it’s this: time is precious — so let’s spend it bravely, and make it count for someone else too.
